Eric KellerFreelance CG Artist and Gnomon School Instructor Eric Keller has been working as a VFX artist and scientific animator since 1998. His career spans a diverse array of CG visualization from animating complex biological systems for Nobel prize-winning scientists to creating creatures and digital sets for 10 Cloverfield Lane and Star Trek: Beyond. He has authored numerous books and video tutorials and is an instructor at Gnomon School of Visual Effects. He?s worked at a host of leading studios including Imaginary Forces and Bad Robot/Kelvin Optical.
Ara KermanikianFreelance Concept Designer Ara Kermanikian is a concept designer with a focus on futuristic character, vehicle, and set design for films, games, television, advertising, VR worlds, and 3D prints. He is particularly fond of designing futuristic mechs, cybernetic enhanced creatures, and robotics. Although he works in many other 2D and 3D media and software, his expertise lies in 3D modeling and design. He works primarily in ZBrush, Maya, Photoshop, and renders with KeyShot.
Steve TalkowskiCreative Director, Sketchbot StudiosA 20-plus year veteran of the computer animation scene, Steve has worked as an animation director and character animator on hundreds of national brands ranging from BMW to Pepsi, as well as ground-breaking films including Ice Age and Alien Resurrection. In 2008, Steve launched Sketchbot Studios and self-produced his first foray into the designer toy scene. In 2014, he joined the team at Jim Henson as Art Director and Character Designer on the Henson Netflix series, Word Party.
In this Zbrush Sculpting Tutorial for beginners you will learn how to sculpt a T-Rex Dinosaur with some mechanical parts. This Tutorial series is aimed at beginners so it assumes that you have no or little experience in using Zbrush.
You will be covering basics at the beginning of each part of the tutorial before moving onto more advanced techniques. Repeating parts of this series is time-lapsed to save time. All the techniques that are used through the time-lapse phases are explained at the beginning of the video so you should have no problems following along.

Zbrush Sculpting Tutorial for Beginners Series – Organic & Hard-Surface T-Rex Part 1
Through the time-lapse parts, your instructor Max will commentate general tips and explain some theory behind his sculpting technique.
In this first part of the Zbrush Sculpting for Beginners series you will cover general UI, navigation using a tablet or mouse, views, matcaps, brushes,alphas, dynamesh,masks and sculpting in general. The three main topics / tools that will be covered in this part are:
– Using the clay buildup brush
– Move Brush
– DynaMesh
– Move Brush
– DynaMesh
Once you covered the basic tools and techniques you will start off by blocking out the main body of the T-Rex using the move tool and re-dynameshing. At this point it is very important not to get discouraged if your sculpt does not look right. At this stage it is very important to get the main shapes correct and ignore smaller details. Once you have the main block done, you will create a turntable animation before jumping into part two of the series!
